12 Steps for Overcomers
12 Steps        Prayers
1. I admit that by myself without God I am powerless over_________________(fill in blank), and that my life is without purpose, without meaning and unmanageable.
“For all have come short of (Jesus), the glory of God. Romans 3:23 “ I Know that nothing good lives in me, that is, my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18
2. I believe that God loves me and that He is willing and able to restore me to a new life and a new way of thinking.
“But God demonstrates (shows) His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

“I am not ashamed of the gospel (the good new about Jesus) for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believers.” Romans 1:16
3. I choose to receive Jesus as my Savior and to turn my will and my entire life over to God.
“To all who received Him,(Jesus) those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God”. John 1:12 That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with you heart that you believe and are justified (made right with God) and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9,1
4. I make an honest examination of my life asking the Holy Spirit to show me my bad thinking, bad attitudes, bad behaviors and my God-given strengths.
“Let us examine our ways and test them and let us return to the Lord” Lamentations 3:40
5. I admit to myself, to God and to another person my exact problems and wrongs.
“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another that you may be healed.” James 5:16
6. I ask you Holy Spirit to change my heart and to help me leave my old life with its people, places and things.
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern (ways) of his world, but to transformed (changed) by the renewing of you mind (thinking differently). Romans 12:1
7. I humbly ask you Lord Jesus to remove all my bad qualities and replace them with good qualities.
“I will give you a new heart and put a new Spirit in you I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. “ Ezekiel 36:26 “Humble yourselves before the Lord and He will lift you up.” James 5:16
8. I choose to forgive all the people who have hurt me and I list the person I have wronged that the Holy Spirit brings to mind and I ask for willingness to make restitution to them all.
“Love you enemies; do good to those who hate you; bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” Luke 6:27,28 “It is mine to avenge, I will repay, “ says the Lord. Romans 12:19
9. I will make restitution to the people I have harmed whenever possible except when to do so would hurt them or others.

10. I will continue to do a daily personal examination of my life. I ask God to forgive me for any bad thinking, bad attitudes or bad behavior and I give Him thanks for all improvement.
“If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall.” I Corinthians 10:12
11. I seek through prayer, thinking on God’s Word and obedience to it to be always aware of God’s presence so that I may know His will for me and have the power to do it as the Holy Spirit helps me.
“Do always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I Thessalonians 5:16-18
12. Having improved as the result of using these Bible truths, I will take the good news of God’s peace and freedom from bad habits to others.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Dear Lord Jesus: I know I am a sinner. I believe that you died on the cross for me. You rose form the dead; you are alive and here right now. I open up the door of my heart. I invite you into my heart. I accept you as my personal Savior and Lord of my life. Thank you for coming into my heart. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and help me to grow as a Christian. In Jesus name AMEN

God grant me the serenity- to accept the things I cannot change, - the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time.  Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace. Taking as Jesus did, this sinful would as it is, not as I would have it. Trusting that you make all things right. If I surrender to Your will. So that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with you, forever in the next. In Jesus name AMEN

Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am saved. I know that your Spirit lives within me and that I belong to you. I confess that I have sinned against you, I ask you to create in my a clean heart and a good attitude. Forgive me Lord. I want to live for you, I want to serve you. Fill me more and more with your Holy Spirit. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit to live for you. Thank you for loving me. In Jesus name. AMEN
